Exploring the Sky on a Stearman~

STEARMAN ZK RDK 317

This is a small airport known as Mid-Canterbury Aero Club in Ashburton, Mid-Canterbury, South Island of New Zealand. This airport was where HRH ( the Queen ) landed during her first royal visit to NZ many years ago. There are many passionate pilots who have their own planes in their very own hangers. Some self built their microlights. It was an eyeful looking at those beautiful planes.

This particular plane was one of the attractions in this airport other than a Museum in it. It was an honour to be able to sit on this beautiful Stearman. I was sitting at the front seat while the handsome pilot was at the back seat. I don't know how it is operated from the back seat. It is one of a few which is still in operation. This beautiful baby was born in 1945 and is known as Boeing Stearman PT-18.

On its way for a fly away...sweet!

High up at 2000 feet! As it is an open cockpit plane with the cold weather, it was freezing... but the scenery was spectacular!

Look at this, now you know what I mean.

Beautiful views and along the beach...

Beautiful sunset and I felt like I was acting in Pearl Harbour ...so romantic!

Alpine Area Rally, Kaikoura NZ

Passion of Flying

Kaikoura is a famous place at the north of South Island in New Zealand for whale and dolphin watching. The little view of the coast behind me is the Kaikoura seaside. There are two means of transport to take you for the watching - by light aircraft and by a ferry.

I was there for another reason though. I went there to watch pilots and their lovely aircrafts. It was the Alpine Area Rally and I was there for a couple of nights. This is the sight of the airfield. And this is where the plane will take off if you plan to go whale watching by air.

All the aircrafts were lining up and the pilots were getting ready for their performances. Beautiful babies, aren't they?

This is not me of course!

Sky Diving in Canterbury NZ

I got a surprised birthday present - A Sky Diving Experience in Canterbury NZ with a photographer.

That's me pretending to enjoy and like the flight up the 12000ft.

It's time for the fall...I was shaking and already shouting!

I couldn't remember anything from the time I left the plane to this point.

I enjoyed this part well..my instructor who is at my back ( a Slovakian ) was great!

The experience of once in a life time! A must do in your wish list but it's definitely not a second time for me. Later I overheard a pilot saying: Next load of meatbombs please!
That's nice?!
